How you’ll impact our mission:

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a full-time Facilities Manager to lead our grounds and maintenance work across our eight locations with a focus on Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Racine Counties. This position provides oversight and leadership to our team of Facilities Maintenance Specialists and reports to the Vice President of Operations.  This role requires regular onsite presence, especially at our Milwaukee Campus, and travel between locations to ensure the functionality, upkeep, and safety of our buildings. The role typically works Monday through Friday, with flexibility to be on-call and support occasional weekends, evenings, and/or holidays to support facilities needs that arise. If you’re looking for a rewarding career that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of animals and people while working alongside a supportive team, apply today!

Key accountabilities:

Lead the Work

  • Coordinate resources to ensure the functionality, cleanliness, upkeep, and safety of our facilities, equipment, and grounds to support our work for animals and for people.
  • Respond to internal maintenance requests promptly and effectively.
  • Oversee systems that ensure proper inventory levels for facility equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee team scheduling, supervision, and support for daily tasks.
  • Track and coordinate the maintenance of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Manage multiple facility improvement projects simultaneously, including vendor selection, oversight, and coordination and communication with internal stakeholders in alignment with organizational resources, priorities, and needs.
  • Execute and participate in department budgeting to ensure facility purchases and investments meet organizational needs now and in the future.
  • Support safety plans, equipment, and processes across the organization

Lead the People

  • Supervise and coach facility staff across locations using WHS’s supervisory processes, people-centered approach, and values.
  • Support performance and professional growth of the team through effective hiring, onboarding, and training of staff.
  • Collaborate within and across teams to maintain the alignment of people, processes, and organizational functions.

Lead the Culture

  • Create and support a workplace environment that exemplifies WHS’s values and people-centered approach.
  • Build relationships and communicate organizational and team strategic direction, priorities, values, and key information.

Qualifications:

  • Previous maintenance experience required; experience in a high-traffic commercial facility preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and inspire great performance to achieve results; prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • Must be able to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
  • Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, ladder work, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate to solve problems.
