The Board of Directors of the Wisconsin CASA Association is seeking a qualified, dedicated board treasurer. Board responsibilities include attending bi-monthly meetings, sub-committee involvement, financial commitment to our organization, and other activities as deemed necessary by the Board. This is a working board committed to diversity and to supporting the mission of Wisconsin CASA.

Mission Statement:

Wisconsin Court Appointed Special Advocates (“CASA”) champions the needs of abused and neglected children by supporting and expanding local CASA programs.

Vision Statement:

Every child has a voice and a hopeful future.

Prospective Wisconsin CASA Board Members will:

  • Believe in and be willing to support the Wisconsin CASA mission statement
  • Be asked to make a commitment to serve a 3-year term
  • Participate in Board Orientation

Wisconsin CASA Board Members will strive to:

  • Establish policies of administration that are in harmony with the purpose and goals of the CASA Network
  • Employ and evaluate the performance of Wisconsin CASA staff
  • Secure funds required for current expenses by actively participating in funding efforts
  • Ensure that the financial affairs of the organization are conducted responsibly and in accordance with established policies

Duties of Individual Wisconsin CASA Board Members:

  • Attend at least 75% of the bi-monthly board meetings
  • Inform the Executive Director if you cannot attend a meeting
  • Read agenda materials and keep informed on current issues and trends affecting child welfare based on areas of expertise
  • Attend and participate in committee meetings to which appointed
  • The duty to exercise reasonable care when making decisions as a steward of Wisconsin CASA 
  • Become a financial supporter of the organization
  • Assume leadership in organizational funding efforts
  • Actively promotes and represents the purposes of Wisconsin CASA and its network through effective communication with affiliates, the public, legislative bodies and other organizations as appropriate
  • Take no private action that will compromise the board or staff and respects the confidentiality of information that is shared or discussed with and by the board
  • Represent the entire state in board deliberations
  • Adopt the annual budget
  • Provide input on general policies and legislative positions  
  • Participate in the nomination and election of officers as needed
  • Review and adopt the Wisconsin CASA strategic plan, goals and objectives
  • Fulfill other duties as provided by the bylaws and policies of the organization
  • Be informed about CASA programs, policies and services
  • Be informed about the needs of the communities and children served by CASA volunteers

Treasurer Role and Responsibilities:

  • The Treasurer is an Officer of the Wisconsin CASA Board of Directors
  • The Treasurer is also a member of the Executive and Finance Committee for the Board of Directors
  • Average time commitment:
    • Regularly scheduled board meetings – every other month for 2 hrs.
    • Committee meetings – once per quarter for 1hr.
    • Monthly financials – 3 hrs. per month.
  • Bi-weekly entry of payroll transaction reports and entry of employee retirement contributions
  • Monthly entry and/or supervision of data entry for AP and AR transactions (use of QuickBooks)
  • Generation of monthly financial reports:
    • Bank Reconciliation
    • P&L Statement
    • Actual to Budget Report
  • Signer on WI CASA bank accounts
  • Works with the Executive Director in the creation of the annual budget
  • Annual Audit:
    • Work with the Executive Director to complete the annual audit effectively and efficiently
    • Provide documentation and samples as requested
    • Respond to auditor requests and questions as needed
  • Provide a Fiscal Report to the Wisconsin CASA Board of Directors at regularly scheduled meetings and as needed between meetings
  • Participation in an annual evaluation of vendor and insurance coverages/premiums
    • Lead any Request for Proposal (RFP) efforts

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit budgeting and cash flow projections.
  • A good understanding of balance sheets, profit and loss accounts, and cash flows.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word)
