Job Summary:

The Fund Development Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of fundraising strategies at Serving Older Adults (SOA). This role is critical in managing strategic relationships and alliances that support SOA’s mission and goals. SOA’s mission is to provide essential services and programs for adults aged 50 and better. Our vision is to create a community where every adult 50+ is connected to the resources they need and the opportunities that interest them throughout their aging journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising:

  • Develop and oversee annual fundraising strategies to meet the organization’s goals, including campaigns, grant writing, planned giving, special events, and individual/corporate solicitations.
  • Expand SOA’s funding base by building and leveraging relationships with foundations, corporations, community organizations, key donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Write grant applications and manage the grant reporting process, working closely with Program Directors and Controller.
  • Develop and manage a planned giving program, cultivating relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events.
  • Marketing & Public Relations:
  • Create a public relations strategy that communicates SOA’s mission, vision, and impact, ensuring the brand is represented effectively.
  • Manage the SOA website and social media to ensure timely, relevant, and accurate messaging.
  • Lead the creation, design, production, and maintenance of publications (monthly activity guide, newsletters, flyers, brochures, annual report, etc.).

Administration:

  • Oversee fundraising data management, ensuring an accurate and secure donor database and gift processing methods.
  • Supervise the Communications and Outreach Coordinator.
  • Manage individual donor campaigns, including personalized solicitation and acknowledgment letters.
  • Monitor and communicate fundraising activities, results, and budgets. Provide guidance on future strategic planning for fundraising and marketing efforts.
  • Support the Board of Directors’ Development Committee with reports and analysis.
  • Participate in leadership team meetings, offering strategic input for organizational growth.
  • Education & Experience:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant Experience: At least 5 years in a nonprofit fundraising role, including experience in annual fund drives, special events, grant writing, planned giving, and capital fundraising.
  • Experience in: Leading development projects, coordinating with colleagues to achieve outcomes, and reporting to the CEO and Board. Familiarity with marketing presentations for donors, community groups, and foundations.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage donors and build long-term relationships.
  • Technologically adept, with experience using donor management systems and tools like Gmail, Google Workspace, and other software.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with board members, staff, community members, foundations, and corporations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while also collaborating with the team at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions:

Creative, open office environment with a business casual dress code.

Regular business hours (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday). Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to meet organizational or donor needs.

Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required for local travel (Southeast Wisconsin).

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Must pass criminal background check.
