The Deputy Executive Director supports the overall administrative leadership of Radio Milwaukee by providing strategic oversight of the organization’s operational, financial, and administrative functions. This role is responsible for driving organizational efficiency, ensuring robust administrative infrastructure, and supporting the Executive Director in managing the organization’s core business operations.

This role works in partnership with the Executive Director, who leads programming, content, and creativity, ensuring that operations support and enhance the station’s mission. The Deputy Executive Director supervises the Director of Development, Director of Underwriting, Community Marketing Manager, Facilities Manager, and Finance Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership:

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop strategic plans that align organizational operations with Radio Milwaukee’s mission and long-term goals.
  • Serve as a key member of Radio Milwaukee’s leadership team, contributing to high-level strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and optimize organizational structure to support strategic objectives and maximize team performance.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to enable data-driven decision-making and organizational insights.
  • Proactively identify and address internal opportunities and challenges, ensuring continuous organizational improvement.
  • Manage key projects and special initiatives that relate to organizational sustainability and long-term growth.
  • Financial Leadership (in partnership with the finance team):
  • Oversee annual budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash-flow planning.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, nonprofit financial regulations, and internal financial controls.
  • Support financial audits and manage capital investments to strengthen financial health.
  • Identify opportunities to maximize revenue streams and control costs while maintaining impact.

Operational Excellence:

  • Facilitate communication across teams, aligning business functions with organizational objectives.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to increase productivity and reduce redundancies, leveraging project management tools like Monday.com to enhance workflows, communication, and accountability.
  • Supervise building operations, technology infrastructure, and capital improvements to support operational continuity and effectiveness.

Revenue Strategy:

  • Partner with revenue-generating teams to optimize revenue streams.
  • Ensure accurate reporting for grants and sponsorship fulfillment.

Talent & Performance Management:

  • Establish a system for measuring organizational effectiveness through dashboards and regular reporting.
  • Prepare financial and operational reports for leadership and board members.
  • Design and implement a robust performance review system that ensures consistent, fair, and constructive evaluation of employee performance.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Adapt to evolving organizational needs and take on new responsibilities as required.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, nonprofit management, or related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of executive leadership experience in strategy, operations, finance, or nonprofit management.
  • Strong financial expertise, including budget management, financial compliance, and operational performance optimization through data analysis and KPI tracking.
  • Experience managing organizational capacity, operations, and systems while successfully handling multiple priorities and tasks.
  • HR experience preferred, including talent management and workplace culture development.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Adobe Suite, and project management tools.

Our Walker’s Point home is a creative environment that includes a full kitchen, green roof/deck and performance space. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. We are currently operating on a hybrid schedule with a minimum of four days per week in the office.
