Job Purpose and Reporting Structure:

Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of Anti-Violence Services, the New Paths Advocate provides support to youth survivors of sexual violence and trafficking through advocacy and accompaniment (forensic exam, interviews with Milwaukee Police Department, District Attorney’s office, etc.) and offer support to them through the long term effects of trauma.  Responsible for helping clients explore their options, know their rights, access needed community resources, and develop safety plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet in-person or by telephone with youth who have experienced violence and provide advocacy/accompaniment services.
  • Provide accompaniment, crisis intervention, and advocacy services, including service coordination as necessary.
  • Support youth to access available community resources and support connection to the community organization or to the appropriate Pathfinders services.
  • Listen, validate, and assess youth who have experienced violence and help them develop personal safety plans.
  • Educate youth on their rights and accompany clients to family court or legal proceedings as requested.
  • Work two on-call shifts per month from 4 pm to 12 am to provide in-person advocacy to commercially sexually exploited youth at local hospitals, police stations, or shelters.
  • Facilitate regular outreach and support groups and provide weekly street outreach with the Street Beat team.
  • Compile records and prepare reports, including case files and correspondence with youth and other providers involved. Develop, maintain, and submit necessary reports for program evaluation and statistical compilation.
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships within Pathfinders and the outside community. Develop knowledge about community services, agencies, and other individuals to support the client.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise 1-2 volunteers (including AmeriCorps and Interns) as needed by the program. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and all applicable laws.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Requires education generally equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or human services, and/or life experiences and two years’ experience working with youth.
  • Must possess working knowledge regarding the issues surrounding and impact of sexual violence, domestic violence and sex trafficking on survivors.
  • Must have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and proof of sufficient automobile insurance coverage

 Additional Information

Position pays $36,000 – $42,000. Pathfinders offers medical, dental, vision and insurance, and the opportunity to join a caring and committed team of professions.
