Movin’ Out, Inc. is seeking a full-time Resident Services Coordinator to join our team.

Movin’ Out is a thriving 30-year old, statewide nonprofit organization that advances disability justice by co-creating safe, affordable, community-integrated homes. As a HUD-approved housing counseling agency, we currently offer information, advice, referrals, and resources for home ownership, and home repair for safety and accessibility. In addition, we provide financial literacy training, credit counseling, and rental housing counseling. Additionally, Movin’ Out offers rental housing for households with low to moderate incomes. We develop new multi-family housing with most units affordable for low-to moderate-income households, and coordinate services for residents of our supportive units. We primarily serve income-qualified households that include a person who has a permanent disability of any kind, whether intellectual, physical, or mental health.

The Resident Services Coordinator holistically supports the health and wellbeing of rental residents for greater independence, successful tenancy, and housing stability to improve long-term outcomes. This is accomplished by building trusted relationships–responding as needs arise and proactively through coordinating the Community Impact Program. The Community Impact program supports resident-led activities that build social capital through the values and practices of Asset-Based Community Development and social innovation. The Resident Services Coordinator helps to ensure compliance with HUD requirements, Fair Housing laws, and other relevant rules and regulations, and maintains privacy and confidentiality.

Essential job functions include:

Community Impact Program

  • Responsible for the overall development and implementation of the Community Impact Program, which aims to support resident-led activities that increase engagement and build social capital, primarily targeted to but not exclusively for residents in supported units.
  • Applies the Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future framework and guidelines for resident services coordination in deploying the Community Impact Program to develop leadership and life skills.
  • Integrates other social determinants of health such as economic and educational opportunities, alternative transit options, and other opportunities to improve outcomes for residents in supportive units in ways that benefit the surrounding community as well.
  • Coordinate and support resident events, tenant councils, and other resident engagement activities.
  • Collaborates with the real estate development team and/or community partners to integrate community engagement, accessible transportation, employment, and other opportunities into the design and development of new multi-family apartment projects.
  • Represents Movin’ Out at relevant community events.

Resident Services Coordination

  • Supports the health and wellbeing of residents by coordinating with local service providers and community organizations. For residents in supported units, coordinating with supportive service agencies and referral partners (e.g. managed care organizations, ADRC, veterans organizations, etc.)
  • Educates residents on the rights, responsibilities, and roles of tenants and landlords.
  • Develops and fosters positive working relationships with property management partners.
  • Organizes empowerment services such as financial literacy learning opportunities as required by various funders.
  • Offer guidance and support to residents in Movin’ Out rental properties, e.g. referrals to property management or other resources.
  • Provides individual support as needed, e.g. intervention as appropriate when behaviors put tenancy at risk, assistance in resolving disputes with property management and/or neighbors, and strengthening connections with community resources.
  • Propose and implement approved suggestions for continuous process improvement.
  • Maintains rental database records/monthly rent rolls.
  • Maintains waiting lists for supportive units in Movin’ Out’s rental property portfolio, making preliminary eligibility determinations for supportive rental units based on household income and disability status.
  • Responds via email, text, and telephone to and log inquiries from people seeking affordable housing assistance, including referrals to other housing resources.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date referral resource lists for rental housing resources.
  • Provide administrative support, e.g. participate in rotation with other staff for opening and routing mail, and scanning and filing documents.

  • Participate in the ongoing anti-racism and racial equity work of the organization, e.g. at least one learning opportunity per year facilitated by (an) individual(s) holding intersection and/or marginalized identities
  • Participate in formal and informal professional development activities, as approved, with a preference for those that are facilitated by individual(s) holding BIPOC/intersecting marginalized identities and/or address an equity topic
  • Other duties as assigned, which may from time to time include tasks in support of other teams/departments.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent, BA/BS in a related field of study preferred
  • At least two years of relevant experience, including program design/coordination, activity or event planning, teaching or facilitation, community organizing/community development, and/or working with people with disabilities
  • HUD housing counseling certification or willing to achieve that credential within the first 12 months of employment
  • Second language fluency preferred, e.g. Spanish or Hmong

Working conditions:

This is a hybrid position. The Resident Services Coordinator works from a remote location/home office, in our Madison office, and on site at Movin’ Out rental properties and apartment projects throughout Wisconsin (currently mostly in the southern half of the state). Occasional local and/or regional overnight travel and occasional evenings/weekends may be required. This role reports to the Asset Management Director.

The starting annual salary for this position is $52,500 – $57,500.
