COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission is seeking to fill a full-time Communications Specialist position. The Communications Specialist is instrumental in supporting the design, development and launch of strategic digital and traditional marketing and communication materials/content to promote the awareness of the Milwaukee Rescue Mission’s events, programs and services to maximize community engagement and attract supporters. This position will strive to build relationships with various press contacts and continuously evaluate and improve our resources and communication vehicles.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm, with some variation based on events and online activity

LOCATION: Central Campus, 830 N 19th Street, Milwaukee, WI. 53233

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct Mail and Digital Fundraising:
    • Liaison with vendors to provide copy feedback and coordinate review routing of vendor communication products
    • Execute all MRM brand guidelines throughout all digital and print communication
    • Support Volunteer Coordinator & Event Coordinator to establish event marketing materials
    • Remain informed of various digital and fundraising communication trends
    • Provide recommendations regarding fundraising strategies
    • Manage social media presence on all digital platforms
    • Create and maintain MRM communications calendar
  • Public Relations:
    • Monitor and respond to emails submitted through “Contact Us” form on website
    • Lead tours for donors and partners on a regular basis, informing them of MRM initiatives and history
    • Write and distribute press releases to local media; build relationships with various press contacts and coordinate logistics of press appearances
  • Graphic Design, Photography and Videography:
    • Coordinate design, editing and maintenance of all print materials ranging from brochures to event promotional materials through use of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
    • Photograph and video record various events and initiatives that take place at MRM’s Central and North Campuses
    • Produce regular internal video series from MRM President
    • Produce external video content on a regular basis for use on social media and MRM website
    • Liaison with vendors including account managers, photographers, writers, videographers, etc.
    • Facilitate the production of print materials
    • Assist other departments with various communications, photography, videography
    • Maintain website content
    • Create and edit copy for print and web publications
    • Create presentations for Director of Communications, VP of Advancement or President as needed
  • Department Support:
    • Provide technical and logistical support as needed
    • Assist Director of Communications and VP of Advancement with projects as needed
    • Facilitate creation of materials and flyers for other department staff, including volunteer flyers and letters
    • Manage weekly advancement meeting agenda and take notes in meetings
    • Provide other MRM staff with digital resources as needed, including logos and photos
    • Take notes in all internal and vendor meetings for future reference

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in communications, marketing or related field
  • At least 3 years of marketing and communication experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite programs required
  • Proficiency with Adobe Publisher or InDesign strongly preferred
  • Mature Christian with a servant’s heart who is able to relate well with others in a diverse population
  • Creative skill set
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills with the capability of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization and follow-through skills
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and community-driven with a positive attitude and readiness to be a flexible team player
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Must be able to handle physical workload – ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, walking, stair climbing, kneeling, squatting, crouching, reaching, handling and gripping without difficulty, repetitive movement of both hands and arms, as well as occasional lifting or moving items with a maximum weight of 55lbs a short distance (ex: floor to shelf or cart), and pushing or pulling heavier items with the use of a cart or dolly.

  • Be a committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is evident in personal testimony and Christian conduct
  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
