Position Mission: Ensure that PEAK youth have the awareness, confidence, skills, and tools they need to reach their full potential by implementing the successful design and delivery of discovery, experience, and project-based programs that integrate with, and support a model of continual, year-round learning.

REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS: The Teen & Community Program Coordinator reports to the Teen & Community Program Manager and works collaboratively with other program and operations staff.

POSITION AVAILABILITY: The Teen & Community Program Coordinator is a full-time, exempt position which regularly includes weekend and evening hours.

Due to the nature of PEAK programming, limited time off is granted during the summer, compensated by organization-wide shutdowns at the end of August and before the New Year, in addition to the standard PTO allotment.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Serve as lead facilitator for PEAK and School based programs, workshops and leadership labs.
  • Supports the preparation, design, and execution of programs, retreats, and events, including curriculum review, logistics, material assembly, and communications.
  • Serve as a program lead during overnight expeditions and retreats that typically range from three to six days.
  • Serves as a lead facilitator for PEAK’s drop-in Community Camp held in the park during the summer. Engage the community with activities in Tiefenthaler Park and supervise Community Camp interns and staff.
  • Facilitate volunteer and alumni engagement opportunities within programming.
  • Serve as a success coach for LTs and support the creation and completion of their portfolios.
  • Support recruitment efforts for school year programs.
  • Drive PEAK vehicles for participant transportation during programs.

  • Must be comfortable working in an office/program center situated in the Milwaukee County Park and community we serve.
  • You are highly energetic with an ability to work independently and maintain a strong commitment to teamwork; you have the ability to confidently set and enforce clear expectations and boundaries with youth participants and staff.
  • You are calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff.
  • You are highly organized with the ability to plan for multifaceted programming effectively and efficiently.
  • A familiarity with Google Drive and client management databases is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish); experience in client-focused conversation in both languages is a plus.

CERTIFICATIONS: You must have a driver’s license valid in Wisconsin and be able to pass PEAK’s motor vehicle background check and driver training and safely drive/transport adults and children in PEAK vehicles, including a 12-passenger van.

A valid CPR and First Aid certification is required within 30 days of your start date (PEAK will reimburse this expense).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching and facilitating classes, trainings, and/or workshops, specifically with young people is preferred.

Associates or Bachelors degree is a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Competitive salary, commensurate with experience (typical starting range for a coordinator is $40,600-$50,750).

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS: The mental and physical requirements and work environment conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Understanding that summer programming and overnight trips are full days and can be demanding with limited time for breaks.
  • Summer activities are often loud, involving many people talking, yelling, cheering, etc., in indoor and outdoor settings.
  • The summer programming environment is often hot, rainy, with bugs or other wildlife. Staff must be able to work outside in a nature setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning.
  • Ability to travel locally in Milwaukee to meet with community partners and to observe programming.
  • Ability to spend time at PEAK’s overnight camp, Lake Valley Camp in Boscobel, WI.
  • Understanding that summer programming for PEAK is extensive and multifaceted and willingness to be present and fully engaged during this critical time.
  • Ability to travel for week long expeditions and weekend retreats with participants.
  • All PEAK Initiative properties, including Lake Valley Camp and the Milwaukee Program Center, are substance-free environments. Smoking, vaping, alcohol consumption, and the use of illicit drugs are strictly prohibited on all property regardless of whether or not staff are on break.
