AODA and Mental Health Clinician – 2nd Shift:

This position is responsible for direct services related to the engagement, assessment, and therapeutic treatment of individuals seeking counseling for substance use, mental health, and/or co-occurring disorders at the outpatient level of care at the Guest House Counseling Clinic (GHCC). Position may also include services related to the engagement, assessment, and support of individuals in other Guest House of Milwaukee (GH) programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct clinical services to both men and women in individual and group counseling formats.
  • Facilitates psycho-educational sessions focusing on substance use, mental health management, and recovery strategies.
  • Offers periodic clinical consultation and/or coaching to t to clinical staff, case managers, and other team members to support best practices in treatment.
  • Communicates and coordinates with all relevant members of client’s formal and/or informal team to provide person-centered, recovery-focused care.
  • Participates in administrative and clinical meetings such as client staffings, supervision, departmental and agency staff meetings, and CCS Recovery Team meetings.
  • Maintains progress notes and other clinical data to ensure compliance with relevant county, state & federal requirements as well as with agency policy and practices.
  • Assists Clinical Services management in matters of day-to-day clinical operations.
  • Assists with training and education of new staff and/or students.
  • Creates partnerships with outside entities (e.g. local social services, healthcare providers) and acts as agency representative in the community.
  • May assume role of “back-up” Mental Health Professional (MHP)and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) as defined in DHS 36 for CCS program
  • Provides on-call coverage as needed.
  • Maintains productivity expectations.
  • Acts in accordance with all professional ethical standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager of Clinical Services.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in human services, social work, counseling, or similar from an accredited school or university.
  • Certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor-in-Training (LPC-IT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services required. 
  • Minimum Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor-in-Training by the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to write professional and technical documents.
  • Ability to plan, implement and follow through on projects relating to the position and agency interests.
  • Must carry individual professional liability insurance ($1/$3 million coverage minimum) and consultation liability insurance.
  • Unrestricted driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Unrestricted approval to provide services.

Training and Experience:

  • Knowledge of and experience providing Motivational Interviewing, Stages-of-Change and other Evidence Based Practices.
  • Experience with and demonstrated understanding of issues relating to homelessness, addiction, mental health and co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to be flexible and appropriately manage change within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience using various clinical assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of community resources and various Government Assistant Programs (SSI/SSD, Medicaid, etc).
  • Computer proficiency – working knowledge of Microsoft program and electronic health record software
