POSITION: Gift Shop Manager

DEPARTMENT: Gift Shop

REPORTS TO: FBBG CEO

CLASSIFICATION: Fulltime

In season: May 1 – October 31; Wednesday – Sunday 9am – 3pm

Off season: November 1- April 30; Monday – Friday 9am – 3pm

I.    MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

Manages FBBG Gift Shop (customer service, merchandising, consignment relationships, purchasing, product/display, inventory & shop upkeep).

The Gift Shop is the first area immediately visible to Boerner visitors upon entrance to the Education & Visitor Center; must be maintained in an inviting and receptive manner, focusing on customer appeal.

II.    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets/helps visitors.
  • Conversant on Gardens and FBBG member benefits/events.
  • Promotes/sells FBBG Memberships.
  • Drives consideration/selection of shop products.
  • Continually merchandises/rotates products for customer appeal.
  • Identifies and contracts local consignment vendors.
  • Manages inventory (product and display materials).
  • Works w/Mktg. Manager providing up to date shop info. for website and other PR.
  • Maintains neat, fresh, clean displays/shop.
  • Approves and confirms all vendor invoicing prior to FBBG accountant for payment.
  • Interacts professionally w/visitors, all building personnel (FBBG, County & Caterer).
  • Recruits/manages shop volunteers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

III.    REQUIREMENTS

  • Effective interpersonal skills; customer oriented, approachable & responsive.
  • Retail merchandising experience and skill.
  • Creative, enterprising, solution-minded, self-motivated.
  • Ability to manage/balance cash/credit card transactions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Computer literate: Email/internet; Microsoft Word, Excel; POS system.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, car, proof of insurance, & a safe driving record.
