POSITION: Human Resources Director
STATUS: Exempt, full-time
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SALARY: $65 – $85K Commensurate with experience and certification
POSITION PURPOSE: The Human Resources Director develops, implements, and administers policies and programs concerning recruiting, hiring and on-boarding, training and development, employment, employee benefits, payroll, wage and salary administration, and employee services.
This newly created position will play a key role on our leadership team, increasing HR capacity to support a dynamic and growing organization (current staff of 32). The agency is dedicated to creating a culture of learning and continuous improvement among a group of diverse, talented individuals.
The Benedict Center is a leading provider of services and advocacy to help women impacted by the criminal legal system live safer, healthier lives for themselves, their children, and our community. Our services include community-based substance use and mental health treatment, reentry programming, and street outreach & drop-in centers for women in the street sex trade.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s mission, values, goals and strategy related to generalist HR activities and HR strategies and initiatives.
- Drives activities pertaining to staffing, recruiting, and retaining talent within the organization.
- Responsible for interviews, candidate background checks, and aids in the selection of employees to fill vacant positions in coordination with hiring supervisors.
- Plans, leads, develops, and administers policies, processes, training, and related initiatives to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
- Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Ensures that organization’s contract requirements pertaining to staffing are met.
- Stays abreast of changes in HR legal requirements relevant to the agency. Ensures that the organization’s compensation and benefits programs are competitive in the marketplace and consistent with organization compensation philosophy.
- Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward the organization’s mission, culture, and goals.
- Visits all four locations at least semi-annually to learn about each program’s unique working environment design and is capable of supporting staff who serve participants facing challenges including incarceration, drug use, sex trade, homelessness and gender-based violence. The four settings include a behavioral health clinic, corrections facility, and street outreach and drop-in centers for women in the street-based sex trade.
- Trains management in interviewing, hiring, termination, promotion, performance review, and inclusive workplace.
- Advises management on appropriate resolution of employee relations and issues, and disciplinary matters.
- Responds to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within the organization.
- Assists in the preparation of accident reports for insurance carriers and state agencies as required.
- Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
- Supports Finance Director on payroll/benefits.
- Agrees, upholds and demonstrates our mission to help women affected by the criminal justice system find hope and lead safer and healthier lives while advocating for a system of justice that is fair and treats everyone with dignity and respect.
- Learns and supports best practices for employing staff with lived experience (e.g. certified peer specialists).
- Learns and practices values of cultural competency/humility including self-reflection and accountability.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
- At least five years of human resource management experience required.
- PHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
