Human Resources Generalist
Employee Classification: Exempt/Salary
Department: Human Resources
Shift: 1st; very occasional evening hours
Total hours required per week: 40
General Purpose
The primary function of the Human Resources Generalist II position is to support the human resources functions within the agency including recruitment, onboarding, and other personnel related matters. The HR Generalist II may also provide administrative support to Executive team members, as needed.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Human Resources responsibilities:
- Posts open positions to appropriate job recruiting websites.
- Serve as the first point of contact for all applicants.
- Coordinates recruiting and onboarding process including scheduling and conducting interviews, completing background and reference checks as well as other pre-employment screens including scheduling health screens with third party vendor.
- Collection of new hire information including but not limited to immunization records, physicals, TB tests, and proof of education and/or required licenses.
- Update and maintain talent acquisition portion of the HRIS.
- Works in conjunction with Program Managers and/or the Development and Volunteer Specialist to onboard interns and volunteers.
- Responsible for responding to unemployment claims and representing agency at hearings.
- Oversees progressive discipline and counsels supervisors on process for same.
- Mediates workplace disputes as may be needed.
- Processes offer letters, transfer notices, and termination documentation and necessary correspondence.
- Conducts exit interviews with departing employees.
- Communicates with managers about recruiting efforts.
- Sends communications to full agency about departing employees or position changes such as internal promotions.
- Assists with new-hire orientation in conjunction with Human Resources Generalist I.
- Tracks progressive check-ins for new hires and ensures paperwork is completed for all performance related matters.
- Assists with assigning and tracking quarterly performance evaluations.
- Compliance responsibilities
- Maintains candidate application log and conducts initial screens to maintain flow of candidates.
- Assists with auditing personnel files to ensure compliance with current contracts, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Assist Executive Staff
- Serve as back up to Executive Assistant, as needed.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
- Serves as occasional back-up to Welcoming Specialist.
Marginal Functions of the Job
- Assist with agency events as requested.
- Serve as back up to cover reception area duties as needed including answering phones, greeting and logging clients and other visitors, notifying hosts of visitors’ arrival, and accepting deliveries.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Associate’s degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in HR roles
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment law

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- All Meta House staff are required to provide proof of vaccination for MMR, Varicella, and annual flu shot.
- Adherence to a non-smoking work environment.
Able to:
- Tolerate occasional hot or cold days.
- Alternate sitting or standing for extended periods of time at will.
- Lift and up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and 40 pounds on occasion.
- Ascend and descend stairs using feet and legs.
- Bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel to perform essential functions.
- Reach overhead, and at or below shoulder level.
- Read and enter text or data into a computer or other system.
- Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands.
- Touch, pick, punch or otherwise working with fingers.
- Hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds in order to communicate with clients and/or colleagues.
- Express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- See clearly at approximately 20 inches or less including use of computers or tablet.
- Visually identify clients and others for reasons including, but not limited to security, presence in the building.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license preferred
- Access to personal vehicle for work purposes preferred
- Auto insurance coverage with the following limits: 100k per person bodily injury/300k per accident bodily injury limit/100k property damage liability preferred
