Job Purpose and Reporting Structure:
Under the supervision of the Director of Runaway & Homeless Youth Services, lead the Advocate team to provide support to victims of sexual violence/exploitation and dating violence through advocacy and accompaniment (forensic exam, interviews with Milwaukee Police Department, District Attorney’s office, etc.) and offer support to them through the long term effects of trauma. Responsible for helping clients explore their options, know their rights, access needed community resources, and develop safety plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent Anti-Violence advocacy services as the point of contact for referrals and manage the referral process by screening incoming referrals, providing resources to referring partners, and assigning clients to Advocates.
- Directly supervise, hire, train, and evaluate Advocates and any other supporting roles.
- Support staff with client consultations, problem solving, and debriefing situations.
- Collaborate with and train local partners to coordinate services and ensure appropriate support for youth survivors.
- Develop and deliver outreach education programming for youth survivors, including those at high risk for victimization.
- Meet in-person or by telephone with youth who have experienced violence and provide advocacy/accompaniment services.
- Provide accompaniment, crisis intervention, and advocacy services, including service coordination as necessary.
- Support youth to access available community resources and provide that referral to the community organization or to the appropriate Pathfinders services.
- Listen, validate, and assess youth who have experienced violence and help them develop personal safety plans.
- Educate youth on their rights and accompany clients to court or legal proceedings as requested.
- Compile records and prepare reports, including case files and correspondence with youth and other mental health and social service providers involved. Develop, maintain, and submit necessary reports for program evaluation and statistical compilation.
- Develop strong collaborative relationships within Pathfinders and the outside community. Develop knowledge about community services, agencies and other individuals to support the client.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise Advocate staff and volunteers (including AmeriCorps and Interns), and maintain responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of volunteers within the program. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and all applicable laws.
Qualification Requirements:
Requires education generally equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or human services, and/or life experiences and two years’ experience working with youth. Must possess working knowledge regarding the issues surrounding and impact of sexual violence, domestic violence and human trafficking on survivors.
Additional Information
Position pays $42,000 – $52,000, Pathfinders offers medical, dental, vision and insurance, and the opportunity to join a caring and committed team of professionals.
