Animal Caregiver

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

1. Feeding the animals and accommodating special diets as needed.
2. Monitoring animal health to identify any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral).
3. Medicating animals as directed.
4. Socializing and grooming animals.
5. Assessing the temperament of the animals to facilitate placement.
6. Cleaning all animal areas daily, including inside/outside runs, cat areas (including litter boxes), floors, dishes, bedding, with spot cleaning as required.
7. Doing laundry, dishes, washing windows, cleaning and mopping public areas as needed.
8. Providing transportation for the animals as needed, to and from vet appointments, for adoption events, to other shelters, etc.
9. Assisting in the vaccination, examination, performance of medical treatments, and euthanasia as needed.
10. Providing good customer service while assisting with adoptions and other duties.
11. Assisting customers who are seeking lost pets and those interested in adopting, including responding to questions about specific animals, adoption process, lost animal process, etc.
12. Maintain accurate records related to animal case files, supply inventory, animal inventory, etc.
13. Stock supplies.
14. Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
15. Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required

1. Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
2. Customer service skills and ability to interact with the public.
3. Technical competence.
4. Ability to manage time and work with minimal supervision and direction.
5. Maturity, good judgement, and a professional demeanor.
6. Experience working with animals of unknown disposition.

Physical Requirement      

1. Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required.
2. Physical ability to push up to 150 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds regularly throughout a normal workday required.

Qualifications    

1. High School Education or GED Required
2. Previous work experience in a shelter or veterinary clinic a plus
3. Veterinary Assistant experience a definite plus
4. Valid Driver’s License a plus
