Welcome! ¡Bienvenidos! MilWALKee Walks is seeking multiple part-time Ambassadors. This is a great opportunity for highly motivated and passionate individuals who wish to be in the community and be a part of the solution for safer streets. Ideal candidates exercise sound judgment and thrive in diverse work environments. They are also highly organized, outgoing, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Ambassadors will be trained on how to deliver MilWALKee Walks programming. This position also supports independent projects and priorities, as well as learning about resources about pedestrian safety and safe streets. 

MilWALKee Walks is a program of the Wisconsin Bike Fed that provides pedestrian safety education across Milwaukee County. This position is funded by a grant and is subject to grant funding availability. This position reports to the MilWALKee Walks Program Manager.

Ambassadors will work approximately 20 hours per week (approximately 500 hours total), mid-March through September 30, 2025. Hours may fluctuate, with more hours happening during the summer.

Requirements:

  • Must live in Milwaukee County
  • Passionate about safe streets, community, walking, and tackling reckless driving
  • Self-starter who is excited to plan and participate in events and recruit volunteers
  • Ability to work outside for 1-4 hours at a time (combination of standing/walking/sitting)
  • Ability to communicate frequently and proactively with the MKE Walks Program Manager
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills  
  • Value working with diversity of people and providing services through equity lens
  • Ability to work on their own and on a team  
  • Ability to travel within Milwaukee County via personal vehicle, transit, biking, or walking/rolling.
  • Must be available to attend Ambassador training on Monday, March 17 OR Tuesday, March 18 from 5:30 – 7 pm (virtual) and Saturday, March 22, 9 am – noon (location TBD). Ongoing, biweekly meetings are required; time will be determined by the team’s availability.

Preferred skills:

  • Fluency in Spanish or another language, in addition to English
  • Social Media/graphic design (e.g. Canva) skills

Duties and responsibilities

  • Attend Ambassador training in March
  • Attend biweekly Ambassador meetings, with minimal absences
  • Conduct Crosswalk Actions
  • Lead programming such as walk audits, decorative crosswalk painting events, walk/rolls, etc.  
  • Assist in yard sign distribution
  • Attend meetings related to safety, pedestrian safety, streets, etc.
  • Manage data and contacts
  • Write updates and outreach materials as requested
  • Report expenses and work hours associated with the program in timely fashion
  • Additional Bike Fed tasks and event staffing as assigned

Work Schedule: Ambassadors will work flexible hours depending on their schedule and the schedule developed by the Program Manager. Weekends, early evenings, and mid-day are common.  

Work Location: This position reports to the Bike Fed’s Milwaukee office and out in the community, as well as occasional virtual work.

Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods, typing on a computer keyboard or cell phone, lifting objects of 45 pounds or less, speaking in public and leading engagement activities. If you have concerns regarding physical requirements, please ask; accommodations can likely be made.

Equipment Used: Computer/phone, audio-visual systems, printer/copier.

Compensation: Ambassadors will earn $20-24/hr depending on experience. Ambassadors with substantial, proven experience may be eligible for a higher rate. All positions are dependent on continued grant funding.
