The Academic Dean will focus on improving student academic performance through leading the support and development of instructional practices. The focus of this position is professional development and faculty formation, creating a school climate of continuous improvement characterized by excellence, rigor, mission integration and support inside and outside the classroom; the academic advising of students with a keen focus on educating the whole person; and effectively communicating with students, parents, and faculty. This is a full-time 100% FTE position during the school year and part-time 50% FTE position in the summer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Religious & Mission
- Embraces the Catholic mission of the school and is willing to maintain a perspective that understands the teachings of the Catholic Church, models the importance of faith formation, and encourages spiritual growth in our faculty and students by participating in faith formation programs and opportunities.
- Collaborates with the campus ministry team in support of spiritual formation of students and faculty.
- Oversees efforts to advance the Catholic, Salvatorian identity of the school and its connection to the classroom.
- Collaborate with the Campus Minister for Adult Faith Formation to promote the spiritual growth of the faculty to advance the Catholic and Salvatorian identity and mission of the school
Instructional Leadership
- Analyze student achievement data to help teachers inform their own instruction.
- Research secondary and higher education trends and topics with a focus on how girls learn.
- Leads the academic strategic and curriculum and instruction planning process.
- Facilitates the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Committee meetings. Ensures the agenda and prepares minutes.
- Plan and/or lead effective professional development (including in-service) in order to meet the needs of the faculty and the school including Coordinating school-wide professional development plans, goals, processes, and methods of implementation
- Assures quality control over the Salvatorian Educator Effectiveness Program including faculty supervision and evaluation in conjunction with the principal.
- Works with and coaches faculty members in instructional and classroom management.
- Works with the Instructional Technology Coordinator to promote and enhance workshops and plan training opportunities to integrate technology into classrooms on a regular basis.
- Helps lead the interview process for faculty members.
- Coordinate the orientation process for first year teachers and assists with teacher licensing as necessary.
- Oversee Instructional Learning Teams and provide needed support to faculty to participate in these teams.
Academic Advising of Students
- Leads the National Honor Society, Salvatorian Global Scholars Program, and STEM Scholars programs.
- Understand and implement a data-driven approach to all aspects of school information management including but not limited to academic achievement, conduct, and attendance.
- Student Grade Reporting -The Academic Dean is responsible for the grade reporting process. The following steps are part of this process:
- Working with the office personnel and technology staff to prepare teachers for maintaining and submitting grades.
- Communicating with teachers and departments regarding grading norms.
- Processing the printed reports and evaluating them.
- Communicating with parents (using all forms of communication) regarding the academic progress of their daughters.
- Supervise the distribution and recording of mid-quarter reports and special reports to parents.
- Works collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and student services in return to school for students who miss significant time for health-related reasons.
- Works collaboratively with student services on the course selection, advising, and schedule change process.
- Maintain records for and monitoring progress of students on Academic Probation.
- Assigns students to ALPHA or Dasher Time locations as needed.
- Communicating with the Athletic Director, coaches, and students regarding Athletic Ineligibility.
- Conducts student dismissal and review meeting. (Gather and distribute information, schedule meeting, chair meeting, make recommendations to the Principal, communicate dismissals and probation conditions to parents, follow-up with Principal on probationary conditions.)
Communication with and Support of Faculty, Students, and Parents
- The Academic Dean is attentive to the needs of these groups and responds with appropriate communication. The following steps are taken:
- Demonstrate a highly professional approach in dealings with students, staff and families.
- Recognizing the work and effort of teachers.
- Discussing problems with teachers, students, and parents.
- Working with the Student Services Department to coordinate services to help students and parents.
- Determining, with the teachers, methods of instruction, assessment and grading.
- Creates, plans and assists with implementation of parent education programs.
- Uses the eNews as a tool for appropriate parent communication.
Administration
- Coordinates DSHA’s participation in government Title and state aid programs.
- DSHA Curriculum Guide: Coordinates the annual review, proposal, and finalization process.
- Coordinates all test prep programs at DSHA to include distribution of letters, ordering books, creating notices, etc.
- Collaborates on DSHA strategic plan. Promotes collaboration and team spirit within the Total School Community.
- Manages personnel, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution, evaluating performance and making recommendations for personnel actions according to the personnel handbook and in collaboration with the DSHA Board of Directors.
- Leads the school’s accreditation process.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly oversees the Instructional Technology Coordinator and Librarian and has shared responsibility for the faculty and Department Chairs.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Position requires a master’s degree in education and a Wisconsin state administrator’s certification for grades 6-12 or a terminal degree. At least 3 years of previous experience in an administrative academic role is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Effective oral, written and presentation skills are essential for success in the position. Incumbent must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to work on multiple projects within specific timeframes with varying deadlines. The ability to take the initiative with projects and to work both independently and as part of a group is required. Budgeting experience is required. Proficient computer skills with experience using MS Office software, database software, the Internet and email are required. Incumbent must be able to maintain extremely confidential data, including student test scores and grades, teacher performance ratings as well as personal information. Employee development and performance management skills are essential. Incumbent must be able to work with diverse groups on many different projects.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.
The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work takes place in primarily an office/school environment, some travel and exposure to external elements may occur.
