A Call to Action: Now is the Time

We are heartbroken by the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many more black and brown lives in our country. We stand in solidarity with those seeking justice and change, and we are inspired by the leadership shown by the nonprofit and community organizations that have been working tirelessly for racial justice across our state.

We see Leaders Igniting Transformation’s and Freedom, Inc.’s call to divest from police and invest in black lives, the ACLU of Wisconsin providing legal observing and demonstrators’ rights training, the hiring of 75 peace keepers by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, Diverse & Resilient providing support to protesters, and the African-American Civic Engagement Roundtable’s 8 Demands for a New Beginning for Milwaukee County, and so much more.

Thank you for your leadership and for your calls to action. We have joined you in the streets, put money where our mouth is, and urged action from our representatives, and still, we know that more is needed.

Now is a time for action for racial justice and for change. Though taking action looks different for each of us, you play a key role in supporting, guiding, and informing those in your circles, and your actions make a difference.

If you are not sure what your next steps should be, consider attending this statewide virtual summit happening tomorrow to address social and racial justice for Black Americans, hosted by Madison365 and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, featuring 20+ leaders from across the state.

Further, a call to those in leadership roles in our nonprofit community: if your organization hasn’t yet taken action on (or a re-examination of) how it can support and invest in the efforts of black and brown leaders in our communities, organizations, and lives who are fighting for justice, now is the time.

We know how hard this work can be, and if we can support you in this work in any way, or if we can learn from you in doing this work, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,
Ben & Shelly – the Jobs That Help team
